VENITE EXULTEMUS

This short Introit, for general liturgical use, is for SATB and organ, and was first performed in Royston Parish Church on 16 October 1988 by the joint choirs of Royston Church and Ashwell Church (Hertfordshire, UK), conducted by Peter Beavan. It was revised in 2009.

The text is verses 1–3 of Psalm 95, from The Book of Common Prayer. Set in G major, there is a predilection for sharpened fourths and flattened sevenths to create a modal flavour. There is no Gloria ending; an 8-bar Amen concludes the Introit.
