Here, the composer’s use of melody, harmony and rhythm provides a ‘popular’ feel – giving instant accessibility to the ‘happy and straightforward’ mood of the piece. It is suitable for grades 4 – 5 level. 

Criss-Cross was published in the LCM piano handbook as a grade 4 piece, from 2012 – 2017.

IT’S NEVER BEEN CLOUDIER!

Suitable for about grades 3 – 5 level, this piece is set in a simple rondo structure, the accompanying texture being similar throughout. The melody is modal and uses ‘pop’ style syncopation.

A DAY AT THE SEASIDE

Again suitable for about grades 3 – 5 level, this G major piece from Tallat Tunes is in simple ternary form, contrasted with a central section in E minor.

SKIPPING THE BEAT

This piece is a 6/8 style gigue in D minor, appropriate for about grades 3 – 5.

SOLITUDE

 As the title suggests, this short piece, in A minor, is reflective and portrays an atmosphere of seclusion.

OSTINATO DOWNLOAD

Based on an energetic ostinato figure, this lively piece, which starts and concludes in A minor, works through a variety of keys, each section developing material from the first two bars.
