CALEDONIAN MARCH

For Picc., Fl., Ob., Eb Cl., Cl. 1,2,3, Bass Cl., Bsn., Alto Sax., Tenor Sax., Bari Sax., Hn. 1,2,3,4, Cnt. 1,2,3, Tbn. 1,2,3, Euph., Tba., Timp., Snare Drum, Glock., Clash Cym., Bass Drum

Composed in 2023, this short work for concert band is in psuedo-Scottish style with much use of ‘Scotch Snaps’.  This is a rhythmic feature of the strathspey – the slow dance of Scotland, the reel being the quicker dance.  Despite being entitled a ‘march’, the work is intended for concert use only as there are some tempo changes.  It is structured as an ABACA rondo.

Caledonian March was originally composed for organ in 2012, published by UMP in Music for Organ Volume 2.
