BBC RECORD REVIEW 30 December 2023.

Reviewer Yshani Perinpanayagam in conversation with Kate Molleson:

(KM) ‘Plaintive and light-filled music’…..
(YP)….. ‘it’s very much part of the British choral tradition…..there’s something really wonderful about the piece – just enjoying the resonance of voices and I really loved how he painted that gentle breeze at the beginning.  He floats quite fluidly through consonance and dissonance…..those sparkling dissonant piano interjections where you think that’s beautiful, magical and it’s evocative of some place that isn’t quite placed in reality.  Voices in that area of repertoire on this disc really do that transcending reality…..’
(KM) ‘…..gently weird, in that you think you know where he’s going and then he’ll lead you astray a bit.  It does feel like music that would feel gratifying in the voice to sing…..’
(YP) ‘It feels like it’s come from years of working with voices and understanding what they enjoy doing and how they work together…..the experimental sounds sound really unified and really committed.’
